Dear Art in The Park

I have lived in Richland, Washington, for three years now and Art in The Park has been a highlight every year. It's rare that I get to share my art with so many people and once they step into my booth they are all ears. It's different from an exhibition in that i really get to explain the inspiration behind pieces.

I have never attended the event as a local but have had a booth all three years. My first year I found nearly everything for my set up on the side of the road marked "free" or from dumpster diving, yet somehow you saw potential in my application. My second year I bought a couple pieces at Goodwill and a couple used easels from other artists. This year was my first year with panels for walls and it made a huge difference!

I'm thankful for an arts event that involves the community and has been willing to let me learn as I grow. Art in The Park, you have pushed me to create new work and to engage with the community.

I'm already looking forward to next year and am thinking of some of the changes I will make!!!

Makerspace in Tri-Cities!

The Confluent Space recently had their big grand opening and Red Show Art Exhibition. There were over 30 artists involved in the event and I think it's safe to say that we all had a fantastic time. It is a beautiful thing when hard work pays off and artists come together to make the world and our city a better place.

This video shares some of the ways that the arts community in the Tri-Cities, Washington was able to have fun and share what they do.

Ugly Fish?

Hello fellow artists and art enthusiasts!

My name is Felicia Follum and this is my first post for Art-a-Day, though I have been following the blog since March. I am an emerging artist and will be graduating from the University of Wyoming in May.  My artwork tends to focus on social issues.  My most recent body of work deals with African American religious culture and my next body will be dealing with human trafficking.

To see more about me and my artwork check out my blog, website, or Facebook page.  But for now I would like to share one of the watercolor studies I painted a couple days ago. This painting was supposed to be a study of cloth using my dad’s old fish tie. I ended up drawing the fish instead of the waded fabric at the other end.  I really enjoy the colors in this painting...

My mom hated the fish tie and gave it to me in high school.  I kept it and entered it in  an ugly tie contest at Alexander's, a jewelry shop.  It won enough for a free pearl necklace.

Day 2 of sketching: lamps.

The lines on the lantern seem wonky but wasn't sure what was wrong.... My 15-20 minutes/day turned into 40+ with this one but I didn't even notice as I was so engrossed with getting those darn lines figured out.  Still didn't quite get it, but it's close....

Loved Jim's purse drawing today - I'm already thinking about which of my purses will be easiest to attempt tomorrow! :)

Last Art-a-Day Post for 2011!

Wow, I can't believe how fast January and Art-a-Day Went!

Seems like it was only yesterday when I was panicking at 10:00 pm about what I was going to post for the day. Oh wait, that was everyday! haha, but no, this was a great experience and I'm so glad that I got to meet so many talented artists from the Tri-Cities and beyond. I will continue to post and make art everyday on my personal blog Here, and I can't wait to join you all next year!

Ok, enough of the good byes!

For my last post *Sniff-Sob-Sniff* I made this ink print at my art class. We carved out a relief on a foam pad, rolled ink on with a brayer and then printed (stamped) the foam carving onto a white board.

I made a robot, his name is Louis, and he's a bit nervous.

Did you notice it? I spelled my last name wrong because I was focused on signing it in an "edgy" way to match the rough print style. Its Sarah Bosserman not Bossermam

Oh Well, I doubt this picture will go any farther than my fridge!

1st post - patti

Hello Art-a-Day artists,
On January1st and 2nd I completed weaving the shoulder strap, (8 cedar strands braided) of my cedar clam basket. The challenge was to use 4 crayons, blindly chosen, to work in your medium, I chose basketry.
On the 3rd of January, I took 6 completed projects to Allied Arts for entry into the Desert Fiber Arts Show. The pieces of art were; one bookarts project titled Water Drum, one tapestry titled Storm and Sunset and four baskets, my favorite being a rustic picnic basket with lids.
January 4th I began to weave a small backpack basket that my daughter will be using for reinactment of a war. On the 5th, I was learning the ins and outs of waxed linen medallions and began a small piece. Today, I had my first lesson on downloading a picture onto this post!
I am also collecting ideas for my next tapestry.
