As you can see this isn't quite finished. This is close to 6 hours of carving.
Putting on finishing touches and washing out residue inside of the egg. Another couple of hours later. ( 8-10 total ) OOPS! I broke it! @#* Oh well..... You go into these projects knowing this will happen. Now back to the drawing board! :-)

Jan, these are so beautiful and show so much skill. Your attention to detail is amazing. I can hear the resignation in your "voice" upon breaking it. And you accept the nature of the craft, in that this can happen. You are really blooming.
Thanks Laura! What a nice compliment. I really appreciate you!
Jan, Carving an emu egg..now you have certainly balls and great skill! I am impressed. Keep on!
Could you wash the egg out before you start the detail work?
Next time I am going to try a different approach. The directions said to do it the way I did, but I think tthe reason for that is that you then have larger areas cut out to wash out the inner membrane. So I'll cut out larger areas then wash then do the finish carving. Live and learn! Thanks Pat, for your input, too.
Glad you took and shared photos before it's untimely and tragic demise!
