Challenging Myself
Adding another challenge for myself. Besides doing something creative daily, I also plan to (gasp!) work on cleaning and tidying my studio. You know how they say that messiness shows a creative mind? Well, I must be very creative!

YAY!
I'm ecstatic about the art-a-day challenge! Although my job is creating artful interiors, my goal for this art- a -day challenge is to work on art for myself. That's something I rarely make time for these days. Somehow it's easier to create with money in hand and bills to pay.
The last couple days I've started several backgrounds to further develop. I plan to mix faux finish mediums like metal leaf, metal foils, metallic and lime plasters into decorative pieces. I also would like to incorporate realistic studies of my favorite things into these pieces. I'd post my started pieces but I'm ready to hit the hay after an 8 hour day of trowelling Venetian Plaster. Whoever thought being an artist would result in ice and ibuprofen 800. Poor me ;-)

A new size for me- 36"x36" diptych- this one is being prepared for my solo show at Allied Arts Gallery for the month of February. If it doesn't sell, it will go to Scottsdale Arts Festival in March with me.

Art-A-Day round two started out with lots of planning. It is a task: How to turn vision into plans, and then, into reality? Joining Art-A-Day enables me rethink, review, and hopefully, reborn again.

Day 3 (laura gable)
A bit of photo-realism (in an old-master's style) for a Sunday night. Had a little oops, as the painting flipped out of my hands onto the carpet...butter side down. Do you see why I need a studio devoted to this sort of thing. (Painted in oils, 6x6 mini painting.) Laura Gable.

As far as I got before breaking the felting needle. No, not by stabbing my hand though did manage a bit of that along the way.Interesting experiment, learned much, might try to refine it sometime - might not.

Bobi: Felting my hand: interesting experiment or total waste of time?
The jury is still out.
My son says “my mother is turning herself into a muppet.” I agree though am more specific, I think it more like Big Bird with an opposable thumb. I like yellow, red and purple as a color combination – so started with yellow as a base, goldenrod to be specific, very Big Bird. Risking total-waste-of-time I’m still willing to give it another 4 – 10 hours and see what comes of it.

Day 1 (laura gable)
I just modified this post to show the scratchboard in it's original format before painting. Then here she is--my first day of the new year's scratchboard finished, with acrylic inks applied. (She reminds me of the exotic, extinct bird from the movie "UP"). Sized 5x7 so easier to do for quick projects. I'll be teaching a class on these paintings in October at Allied Arts Gallery.

It's a new year
"A fresh new year awakens with all it's promise, like untracked freshly fallen crystalline snow. Pure and Beautiful. Blessings to all."
New year, new blog. I am very excited about this again. It is a fun way to interact with the rest of my artist friends out there and also to keep us diligent to the craft, and somehow justify our self-described title of "artist".
I worked on a small scratchboard on Christmas day and hope to get it colored today. So will post that here. My home studio is in need of sprucing up, so like Bobi, will work on getting the diggs in order so the creating can begin.

Welcome all! Happy 2010!
My studio is too cold for me today! Though I will de-ice the stairs and haul up a propane tank to be ready for days to come. I have an industrial blower that will heat the place in 5 minutes, then air it out for another 5 before its breathable in there - then the plug-in heaters can keep the chill off. Last year I curtained off a portion of the room to keep heating to a minimum but it was too depressing. I prefer the light.
For today I will work with waxes for casting, do some writing or experiment with my new bounty of wool roving. Felting is whole new kind of magic for me.
First though is New Years breakfast with mom!

**** Art-a-Day 2 ****
Last year’s January Art-a-Day challenge was so fun – let’s do it again. And yes, that means it begins tomorrow, January 1, 2010. There’s still time to participate – read on.
The idea is to challenge yourself creatively every day for the month of January. Wherever you do your work, however you do your work –show up every day –and do it. It’s that simple. How to challenge yourself is up to you – but do challenge yourself. And share your experiences at http://art-a-day.blogspot.com/ . This is uber fun and a powerful experience if you will allow it to be so. See comments from last year at the end of this letter

Hey fellow blogger/artists....
It's getting time to think about and start getting ready for the "ART-A-DAY" show we are going to have at 17 1/2 No. Auburn Gallery on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of March. Here are a few of the things I have been thinking:
First Thursday we will be open from noon to 9pm. Friday and Saturday from noon to 6pm. I will ask and hope that every artist represented in the show will be at First Thursday. I am thinking of setting up a computer with the screen blinking the images we sent to the blog. Rastovich...if you have a hankering to take this project over, I'd love it. Something tells me you know bunches more than I do in this area. But if you are overwhelmed with the thought of adding one more thing to do, I can certainly understand. Let me know okay? If any of you want to come hang out in the gallery on Friday and/or Saturday I'd love the company. We can have a mini-salon, eh? Eat the rest of the food, drink wine, OH, and sell art! I will be in town on Monday the 1st and will be in the gallery preparing for the show. I would like the art to be to the gallery no later than Tuesday the 2nd which will give Bobi and I Wednesday to get everything hung and placed. So please plan on delivering your art and inventory lists which include title, dimensions, and price (so we can make a tag) Monday or Tuesday . My cell phone is 503.708.6187 if you have any questions.
For this show the gallery will not take any commission from the selling price. So please consider keeping your prices low enough that they can all blow out of the gallery. Wouldn't that be great? Then we can be free to make more art....yeehaw.
I am also asking everyone to help out with the munchies, crunchies and gulps. Please consider bring a bottle of wine and one appetizer for the show. It doesn't have to be fancy or expensive. A bowl of m&m's or potato chips would be perfect. I will have a few things also, but any help would be appreciated. I'll supply the glasses plates and napkins.
Okay, that is all I can think of for now. Blog questions, thoughts, suggestions, okay?

Ancestral Journey
This a 24"x 72" diptych I've been working on.The two photographs were shot side by side so I have a flow of composition. And they are the same exposure. This is easier than picking through random ones I've shot at different times and trying to make them work together.
