Shipwreck Moon

1 1/2" x 2 1/4 " x 1/4" Copper, silver.   More fun with boxes.

5/8" x  2", silver, brass.  Use the bead at the bottom to help the fish cavort in the waves.

I like jewelry that moves, have a thing for automata (things with mechanisms, like a guy doffing his hat when you turn the crank), keep coming back to little scenes like this - and boxes, love little boxes.  I look forward to doing a bit of a study on these.

This particular one went absolutely awry at every turn but taught me much.

I have found my Wabi Sabi!

What an amazing day in the studio! First let me tell you I am the paragon of patience, the queen of calm, the epitome of perseverance. Today absolutely everything had to be re-done, re-thought, de-constructed and re-constructed again and again and again. I’ve been at it for 9 hours --and having a gas! I alternately accomplished some of the most refined, delicate soldering of my life and then nearly melted the whole darn thing into a puddle numerous times.

I’ll get a picture of the piece here tomorrow after I run it through the tumbler.  It’s rife with imperfections and I absolutely love it.  AND I’m eager to go try some more, plan ahead, do it better, try other ideas and other approaches. This is unheard of for me."okay, that was fun. now what?"...

AND I found a way to make boxes relatively easily and relatively square.  I love them but up till now they have been a **tch to pull off.   Woot!

Every paint session, no matter how short, adds something. Worked on the stone wall and all. even tho the lighting in the studio for photos is well.. challenging

Enjoying Everyone's Art

Hello, Just thought I'd say I have been enjoying everyones art and such. Such a wide range. Well it is Jan 21 and I have painted, with acrylics, everyday. I have posted everything I have done, because some days it was just a few strokes, but other days much more than that. So to all, Keep up the good work. I do plan on continuing to see how many days in a row I can paint.

Today is a fresh start...

What a GREAT motivation this process has been. I was immediately inspired by Bobi’s dare to commit to fresh daily creativity. Then, having to be on the road and feeling guilty for not being able to participate in the on-line process from the get-go, as most of you have, I decided to simply keep my personal daily art log personal and not join in online, but follow all of your progress. Then, coming home, driving through Bend, Oregon I drove past a business sign that read, “Regardless of your past your future is spotless”. So, I drop my guilt for starting late and with this I start afresh. I won’t bore you with 2 weeks of catch-up pictures but here is the Day 1 beginning sketch to final pattern to where it is today.

costume jewlery

This is a necklace I put together after seeing the idea in Martha Stewart Living. You use costume jewelry, attaching it with jump rings, spray the jewelry with copper spray paint and wipe off to give it a more cohesive antique look.Pretty funky!!!

Day8-20

Tile mural before being put into the kiln for first firing.

I had a mosaic workshop at my house this last weekend. Here are two of my students working on their garden balls.

I put together this necklace with items that I have collected from my garage sailing adventures.

I painted and donated this highchair to the Children's Developmental Center for use in their wine auction February 20, 2010.

Day 19 - 20 (bw)

A small pendant.  It's silver though the color is hard to capture with the lighting  in my office.                   I've been looking at a lot of art lately and find I am continually drawn to the quirky, the irregular, the untamed and imperfect.  So I intended to really let myself go today and be quirky as all get out. I ended up being much more controlled by going with this idea - but finding myself more enamored with the imperfectness than is typical.                  This piece is going to be a hoot. I think I'll manage the quirky part.

Day 19 (laura gable)

I like the way the photo looks ... though it's entirely inaccurate. The oil painting's colors are a bit more vibrant and not quite so antiqued looking. It's painted on a gold gessoed surface, so some of that shines through in the scumbled background. (small 6x6 oil on board).

Jan 18 Pink Keyhole

This is 24 x 30. adding little stone work, added little spiral sun thingy. Probably in a couple of days it will really start to come along.

Jan 18-19 More on Darth

Well I got more Darth, even though the pictures aren't good, have small studio, not good lighting.

I have been painting this 18 x 24 Acrylic on a canvas board. Canvas boards are both great and crappy to work on. You can paint on them to save money or work out ideas, but they do weird things, especially with acrylic. Or at least in my opinion. Every once in a while the paper gets a little air bubble or ridge in it, that just stays in the painting.. :) But that being said, I am almost done with Darth Shreddar. Probably by the weekend.

checking in

Hi all -

I have been playing with another spreadsheet for several days in between sketching and preparing for some nudes in ink washes, which I just haven't gotten to yet. So in the mean time . . (BTW, I am enjoying you all!) shelli

Day 18 (bw)

I cut out the figure some time ago thinking it might be a pendant but it was too light and soft for that so I made a box for it - I have a thing for little boxes.  Today I turned it into something.  Good practice on soldering.   2 1/2" x 1 3/4", copper, silver, brass.

Day 17 & 18 (laura gable)

Spent yesterday building a Facebook Fan page for my Studio (does that count as a creative effort?). Do you think that the art images I am posting there should be watermarked to protect the copyright? Share your comments please, I'd love to hear. I realize that we aren't watermarking things here.

Today I thought I'd paint my snack before I ate it. Mmmm it was good, and it didn't taste like paint!

howdy

Okay, so we've crossed the ides of January and I'm here. Weaving a life, forever weaving a story, and currently weaving videotape into hemp on a circular multi-twist rosebranch loom. Glad to meet y'all out here in cyberville. Carry On.
