January 8 - Shaynie

No painting today, just a whole lot of thought.  As I paint the members of my family, who of course I love very much, I come to realize these are not paintings I am willing to let go of nor are they paintings that will emotionally hit others they way they hit me.  January 21 is the deadline for entries into the Chancelor's show at WSU - a great juried show that all of us should consider entering.  As I contemplate entering this show, I search my mind for something that would hit an emotional button with a viewer and try to think of something that tells a story and that can be painted in a fun emotional way.

I remember this photo of Shaynie trying to keep 2 balloons in the air at one time and I am choosing it as the inspiration for my Chancelor's show entry.  I need to continue to think about color and contrast and blur and sharpness and how I can portray the emotion she has got to be feeling.  Thinking about it a long time before putting brush to paint will give me lots of opportunity to paint it a lot of different ways in my head until I can't stand NOT painting it any more!  Several times!

Nancy is this the little grand child from our son who owned the coffee shop? We used to go there a lot when it was next to the Yoga Community. I enjoyed getting to know your son, and your new grand child. Gosh time flies.

I like your portraits. This sounds like a great piece to create for the upcoming show. Keep up the great work.

I meant "your" son (not "our: son).

Hey Laura! This is actually my daughter's daughter who is 9. Laynie, my son's daughter, is (luckily) only 4! Time flies but not quite that fast...
