Going Around in Crop Circles

I've gone 'round and 'round and decided the grapes must be cropped. Here are two options that get rid of the problems that have been nagging me (mostly). Wouldn't it be great if we could just crop away some of life's nagging issues? Sigh. Probably not, then we wouldn't learn anything. But I'm still gonna crop this piece whether I learned a lesson or not! I did order the Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground though.

Hm. I guess I'm not getting how to arrange the images and text...

Hi Lisa is this a really large sheet piece? I like the lower one as it feels more expansive with a peek into the background .... yet I will miss the large cluster of grapes in the foreground that fully identify the scene. Drat about the pesky background. The painting is fabulous.
(I found I have to copy and paste the images within the post in order to move them where I want them, and also I have the images centered so the text fits either above or below the image instead of beside it ... hope that helps).

Your colors are so, so lovely. tough call on the cropping. The long, weighty bunch hanging is abundant and so late-summer feeling. I also like seeing the distant hills on the smaller version. And with digital imaging we can have it all! what size is the original?
When posting, there is a preview button that will pull up your post in another window so you can how it will present then go back and adjust as necessary.

The full piece is 14"x20". The vertical crop would be 9"x19" and the horizontal one 12"x10". I used the preview and it looked fine. I'll try Laura's method next time.

Although I really like them both, I think it depends on what you want the focus of the piece to be. To me the horizontal one is a more 'traditional' shape and the focus is more on the leaves. The vertical one is a more unusual size and it emphasizes the grapes.
I think both are stunning - the color transitions are SO gorgeous and meticulous.

I don't know, I like them both. I guess the narrow one is more about the more easily defined subject of the grapes. Whatever you decide, the painting is wonderful.

Thanks for all the kind comments!

I find it striking. Lots of purple grapes. I think that is good. Personally I like the big one. I don't understand WHY it has to be "cropped" I dunno might be easy to actually "CUT" a watercolor paper down, but if I did that on canvas I wouldn't be able to cut it down. If I wanted the smaller one I'd have to do a new painting.I like the original. Great piece.

Wait, I got confused.. Which is the cropped one? I thought the smaller one at top was. It was smaller, so linear thought told me that was cropped one. But it's not is it? I like them both. BUT I like it uncropped, whichever that is. The smaller at the top shows the whole bunch of grapes down to the bottom tip, but the larger one at bottom doesn't. SO the bottom is the cropped one. I like it uncropped :)

I don't know that we've seen the full uncropped one - how about sharing that Lisa?
