Mini Portrait #8

This year is a story of my 2 current favorite colors - radiant blue and cadmium green light. The faces are proving challenging and I have tweaked it a few times already. The hair was fun and so I'm now wanting hair on myself that looks like that! My attempt here was to use alternative colors in the hair and still let it represent the correct values needed in that area. Here it is in black and white so you can see what I'm talkin about. (Converting it to grayscale is a good way to see the areas that need to go darker or lighter for more drama ... these facial tones could use that treatment).

I really like the use of unexpected colors in the hair - I think it makes for a very interesting portrait. I'm always drawn to art in alternate colors and the freedom it takes to explore those options. Looks great!

What an excellent experience - thank you. Seeing the color choices, how they work and how gray scale gives a new perspective. I agree with Terrie about the freedom to explore! Very cool.

A wise teacher told me once, do first what you think you cannot do.
It's a great mantra too follow, don't you think?
I'd love to say that I do it all the time, but sometimes the energy just isn't there to do the tough stuff all the time. But the rewards are definitely worth it.
